Dead On Arrival.
Since the Recon 47-X crashed on this planet's frozen surface, an uncomfortable and overwhelming sense of emptiness has suffocated the surrounding area, leaving it unbreathable and lacking clean, healthy air. The spaceship's ruined skeleton is relentlessly pummeled by a heavy and sickening breeze, a reminder of the unforgiving nature of the storm.
Alone and cut off from E.V.E., the Rookie arrived on the lower deck of Sector 4. Despite the grim surroundings, his determination to face the worst was palpable. The dim crimson glow spawned from raging flames still dances vigorously within the empty tombs that once held the highest quality of humanity's proudest technological achievements. Guided by the weak trigger from his submachine gun, the single slice of clean light fails to penetrate into the darkness's macabre presentation. But the role he was about to play, no brutal training nor strength could ever prepare him for the truly horrific game he was entering.
" Hello, everyone..." The Rookie calls out in a somewhat hollow voice as he reunites with the stained shadows of the deceased crew.
Still maintaining his composure, The Rookie spent the next ten minutes or so searching for his comrade. The irony of a human risking his life for a life that was artificially created hung over Him, a constant reminder of the stakes. Eventually, The Rookie stumbled across a badly damaged air vent with no visible signs of activity. Starting to believe the worst had befallen his comrade, The Rookie contemplates whether E.V.E. was still functioning. Moving a little deeper down the hall, a faint outline of a figure was dragging itself along the ruined grounds.
" E.V.E?" The Rookie calls as he cautiously moves towards the figure.
Clumsily stepping into the dim light, E.V.E. reveals herself to her comrade, who instantly takes notice of the android's damaged figure.
"Apologize, Rookie..." E.V.E. states politely as she falls sharply to her knees. " I did not intend to cause concern."
Racing towards his comrade with a displeased sigh, The Rookie threw his firearm to the floor as he began to study the damage inflicted upon E.V.E. - tattooed along the android's right cheek was a rather gurly burnt mark, that appeared to have eaten through the layers of artificial skin with effort that would send any human into shock. But perhaps, the more alarming discovery Rookie made was along the android's belly and waist. Traveling from the top of E.V.E.'s belly and down towards her left side was a rather odd and unattractive opening that, upon closer examination, hinted that something had violently crawled out of the android.
Naturally concerned, The Rookie began to fear that they were no longer the only confirmed lifeforms on this frozen planet. As the pair tries to organize their reunion, a strange sound whispers out from within Recon 47-X's emptiness, adding to the already eerie atmosphere. Standing up from his position with his weapon back in his hand, Rookie searched for the source of the mysterious sound, his senses heightened by the potential danger.
" You need not worry, Rookie, I... I... I...," E.V.E. tries to reassure with childlike naiveness as her voice begins to malfunction.
But he doesn't respond to his comrade's request. Entranced by the darkness with uncertain anticipation, The Rookie readies himself for the possibility of a fight. Clearing his mind of any element that could distract him, The Rookie cautiously walks down the hall where E.V.E. came. But all he found was ruin and decay. Feeling less on edge, The Rookie turned back.
" Don't mind us, soldier boy..." said a high-pitched inhuman voice.
The Rookie's heart stopped dead as his soul fell into the depths of dread, followed by an uncomfortable itching sensation that crawls down his spine.
It sat on the wall just above his comrade, its skeletal body bent and twisted in an inhuman pose. It's long, unhealthy claws wrapped around E.V.E.'s skull as it caressed the android's short, dirty, jet-black hair like a loving parent. All the while, a rotten, pale green drool leaked out of its crooked jaws, adding to the thing's already disgusting appearance.
Cocking the hammer back on his firearm, The Rookie aggressively pointed the gun at the thing's shadowlike shape.
" Ooh, such a delightful act of righteousness!" the thing cackles in amusement. " But we must wonder... Why should you put such effort and bravery into saving a life that has no meaning to your creator's design?"
Frozen by his own damning inexperience, The Rookie struggles to focus on the right action to take.
" Hehe, do you really think you could threaten us?!" The thing grunts as it takes a large bite out of E.V. E's shoulder. " You humans have always been nothing but weak insects..." Then spat the piece of flesh at The Rookie with such twisted delight.
Feeling the soft, wet object impact against his face, The Rookie lost control of his better nature - rage and blood lust filled his spirit. Taking aim, his firearm only spoke once. Sending the thing crashing onto the floor as it screams its seeming last breath...
