Hyrule's Inferno 2.

The great city's clock still clicks down... though the dead lie waste over the ruined lands of Hyrule, time's unbiased nature continues to flow smoothly.

Days had passed since the young goddess Zelda left the Temple of Time - it was 3:46 p.m.- and Zelda did not know what she was to do. Effortlessly, she had tried to find any survivors or perhaps a soul she could grant peace in the afterlife. However, despite Zelda's determination, she was unable to appease these desires. The Demon King ensured the world of Hyrule knew their beloved goddess was a fraud.

She spent the last seven days wandering mindlessly amongst the now still, empty, and frozen landscape. The ever-present sense of a brutal storm towers over Zelda from an uncertain and ashamed heaven as an intrusive wind whispers in and out of the spaces between the tall, dead trees that remain of the Lost Woods. Miles of clean white snow rest comfortably over the bloodstained soil without any care. Walking blindly through the crystal white maze, Zelda occasionally would find the badly decaying corpse of Rito, which hung by its broken neck upon the thin tree branch as it swung back and forth within the chilling air. Likewise, the hungry jaws of Keese await in the shadows of the forest for any dying pedestrian they could farm upon.

Overwhelmed by guilt, Zelda grappled with the weight of her leadership and the arrogance that had led to her people's damnation.

" It's not your fault..." Zelda whispers to herself in an unconfident voice... only to become angry at her self-deception.

Pulling sharply on the back of her golden hair with frustration, Zelda kicks a small pile of snow. However, for a reason she could not explain, Zelda began to chuckle as she caught sight of her humanity. Wiping away her warm tears, Zelda wraps her arms around her person as the wind continues its shivering orchestra. Blowing her breath into her shaking, exposed hands, Zelda walks about three more miles before discovering something that grants her a dream of optimism. There, traveling with caution upon the snow, were a pair of bare human footprints.

Ignoring that this could be another cruel prank of The Demon King, Zelda takes a chance and follows the trail. As the hours passed and the pale moon illuminated the frozen earth, exhaustion soon overcame Zelda's already weak body, causing the maiden to collapse against a tree. Allowing the hands of time to work their mysterious efforts, a vulnerable sleep slowly took over Zelda; unbeknownst to the maiden, she was not alone.

Perched like a predator behind a neighboring tree within the dense woodland, a mysterious stranger had caught the interest of the slumbering maiden. Rhythmically moving with the breeze, The Stranger extended his left hand and tapped Zelda's forehead; Zelda responded with a gentle but helpless moan. Nervously biting his nails, The Stranger checks his surroundings. With what little light the night's sky granted for the first seconds, he found nothing; then, a horrid chorus of demonic hissing from out of the darkness. Fearing the worst, The Stranger takes hold of the slumbering Zelda. However, before he could act, Zelda woke up. She picks up a nearby rock and strikes The Stranger's face, sending him crashing hard into the snow. Awkwardly, The Stranger pulls Zelda down with him, positioning himself on top of the goddess to protect her.

Invaded by an unexpected and growing mixture of pain and adrenaline, Zelda wept as she prepared herself for torture and death.

" OOOHHH!!!" The Stranger said in a shy and gentle voice as he backed off. " My Lady?!"

Confused, Zelda quickly rose to her feet. She said nothing as she tried to make out The Stranger's identity. Only for her ego to gain control of her emotions, Zelda shakes her head in frustration, feeling the weight of her vulnerability in this unknown situation.

" Wh..Who are you?!" She arrogantly thought to herself, only for the exact words to slip out of her mouth.

Quickly spinning around without answering her, the Stranger listens for the chorus of hissing that draws near. Still not answering Zelda, the Stranger frantically races past the goddess. Finally understanding the danger that pursued them, Zelda naively follows The Stranger deeper into The Lost Woods...
