Happy New Year, Mia!!!

Image
As the year draws to a close, many gather around the table, sharing spirits and good cheer, while the ticking clock marks the approach of a new beginning, shadowed by the weight of unspoken struggles. On this night, a troubled female named Mia, by her loving father, a fragile soul struggling with internal darkness and feelings of worthlessness, fights to accept the warmth of those who cherish her, haunted by her own silent burdens. Spending the last several hours alone, wandering aimlessly throughout the surprisingly empty streets of New York, she feels an overwhelming sense of loneliness and despair that she cannot escape. Typically, for this magical time of year, many would spend their festivities out in the winter's icy touch beneath an illumination of tiny lights that match the majestic orbs that take residence in our faraway skies, but not on this night. For the night's mischievous nature brought a brutal, biting wind that seizes any warmth within its icy fingers, forcin...

In Death, We Shall Find Peace...

Image
Once again, death playfully, yet mischievously, cast him back into life's cruel embrace. The gears of time began to reset the conscious mind of The Stranger, forever reminding him of the pain, misery, and now horror that he would always be one with. For his attempt at violence towards a living soul was not welcome in the afterlife, nor was he damned interested in one who could not commit to destruction. The Stranger felt the gentle warmth of pure sunlight peacefully greet him as he awoke from the cold, dark void-a space representing the transition or oblivion between lives. But as a sharp wind whispers within the empty frozen, as the skeletons of dead families of trees stand as his witness. The Stranger's deformed, bare body lies within the center of the woodland, a pose carved by those frightened villagers who discovered his bloody corpse from the previous night's misfortunes. The shape of The Stranger's body shivered and twitched uncontrollably as his throat gasped fo...

Dead On Arrival

Image
Thick, unnatural white crystal flakes fall onto Pluto's steep, rough landscape. As the hours fade away, the ever-growing weight of collected snow continues to crash the weakening outer shell of the Recon 47-X, scraping the man-made metal like dry twigs from a centuries-old tree. Long breathless whistles from a demonic wind, howling with icy fury, slipped to and fro throughout the creaks of the ruined starship's skeleton. Blinded by these brutal conditions and the pressure of assuming command, Alek's shoulders sag with frustration, his eyes dark with doubt as he gazes down the frozen hall where he sent the Rookie to rescue E.V.E., feeling the weight of responsibility crushing him, and a deep sense of vulnerability creeping in as he questions his own strength.  Back on earth, Alek knew how to handle the situation - but that was with unintelligent thugs or overambitious soldiers. Here, lost beyond the star, upon a frozen wasteland humanity abandoned long ago, Alek's train...

Predator Badlands: Quick Thoughts.

Image
Yes. I know I am incredibly late to the party on Predator Badlands, but that's the way it works. That being said, I rather enjoyed it more than I thought I would, but there were still some issues with the film I couldn't help but notice. Surprisingly, Dek doesn't ruin the Yautja/The Predator. I found him to be a decent protagonist, though he is definitely lacking a worthy prize, and his father should have had a much larger role in his story.  Trachtenberg's direction is solid, and the soundtrack is pretty cool, but the film's writing, villains, and ending are its main weaknesses. Much like Alien Romulus, the evil android in control of everything is really getting tiresome. I know it's a part of the lore. Still, after both Alien Covenant and Prometheus, it would be nice if the writers attempted something different or brought Michael Fassbender back as David for a much more compelling villain. Likewise, the need for a cute animal sidekick was annoying, and I don...

Get ready for a new story titled " She's Dead, But Affectionate," that blends horror with humor in the name of Sam Raimi's Evil Dead series.
